Day 49 was shitty . . . literally.
I must say that the day didn't start out as planned. All seemed well, for this was the Friday that marked the beginning of a two week holiday for the boys. A welcome break for the boys from the hustle and bustle of school life and a chance for me to finish up some of the projects that the frequent runs back and forth to the school house had heretofore not permitted time for. I didn't even make it through the three S's before we ran into tradgedy. For those of you who are unsure what the three S's are, they are an essential part of most men's morning routines. Shit, Shower and Shave. The first on the list caused a back up of the toilette that my miniature plunger was ill equipped to handle. To be perfectly honest, the issue is still not resolved and will likely require the assistance of a plumber. Even though the human waste would not, the day itself essentially went down the toilette from there.
To add an exclamation point to the crappy trend for the day, this would also mark the beginning of a 5 week travel period for my wife. I am affraid we won't see much of Mom for the next several weeks. In fact, as I am writing this, she is beginning her first tour of duty in lovely Madrid, Spain. We will certainly miss her and to be completely honest, I already do. The day was totally uneventful and is better left in the rear view. The morning would bring a better day and would be full of adventure, so I am going to sign Friday off as a loss and update you later this evening as to Saturdays events which I can promise were in many ways the best yet so stay tuned. The bright spot of the day was perhaps the simplest of pleasures. A bit of football (european) . . . "soccer" in the back yard with the lads. Nothing fancy, just Mom, Dad and the two boys kicking the ball around. To tell you the truth, the youngest has potential and has already been taught many impressive ball handling skills from his mates at school. It was an enjoyable way to close out an otherwise bland day. Fortunately, richness of life returned to us on Saturday even if Mom wasn't here to enjoy it. Until then . . .
