I would like to appologize to the deaf mute, the little old lady from Boca Raton and the Venezuelan Circus midget for my failure to post over the last few days. I am certain that you three are the only readers I have left and I wanted you to know that I value your loyalty. That being said, life just has a way of sneeking up on you when you least expect it. Long days and late nights have caught up with me and I scarcely have the energy to brush my teeth at night, let alone write anything even moderately coherent. I will do my best however, to get you caught back up with the latest from Jack's camp.
For Day 46 I would like to focus on the events of the evening. Parent/Teacher conferences were scheduled for this particular evening and those are always good for a laugh. First up was my youngest. This has been his first adventure into organized schooling and with the exception of a fairly rocky first week, he seems to have adapted well and has even made friends with a little boy named Sven. Poor Sven has it worse than my son by far. He speaks neither English nor French. At any rate, the two seem to have bonded nicely and Cash seems to quite enjoy school these days. The British accent still persists to a certain degree and you will now find him playing along and sputtering to himself in a language all his own. It definitely has a French sound, but it makes no sense. He is getting the hang of things and I think will be well served to continue on just as he has. Behavior at home is still a bit suspect at times although this too seems to be calming a bit as well. That being said, I did receive a nice punch in the mouth the other evening that might well have loosened one of my front teeth. Unprovoked of course, he just sort of looked over at me, his face turning quite cold and then out of nowhere, a torpedo hit me flush in the pie hole. Never saw it coming and it was fairly well executed. These episodes seem to be lessening to a certain degree and I think that school may have a great deal to do with this evolution in his personality.
The eldest's review and future in school is a bit more complicated. The report was quite good and despite the fact that he needs to work on neatness and presentation, the content of his work is quite supperior and he has adapted to his surroundings well and is in fact quite autonomous in his work. Like I didn't already know that. This is all well and good, however, I am not sure that he will be staying at the International School after this semester. I think it is time for him to truly become emersed and will jump in French school if not thrown in come the fall semester. This may well require a relocation. Moving again in such a short period of time seems like an aweful idea from the perspective of the workload that must then be carried on my end, but if the best school requires it . . . cest la vie. Fortunately, the eldest doesn't punch me in the face, so we are all good on that front.
The weather has finally taken a turn toward the sunny side and it looks like this is where we will stay. The days have been VERY warm and evenings fairly mild. I am already fairly surprised how cool the house stays. Apparently they were correct, air conditioning isn't a necessity. These stone homes stay very cool and the pool should serve as a nice relief on those days that reach the uncomfortable mark. As a side note, the ant infestation of my beloved 206 seems to have subsided. That of course is the upside. The downside? Well, the ants seem to have relocated to the interior of my home. I hate to inform them that there is very little they can eat here since I survive essentially off of cheese and bread these days. I don't feel like I have lost any weight, but even my wife commented on the need for new pants since the ones I brought from the states are baggy to the point I look like a homeless person. At least that's what she says. I think I look damned fly for a homeless guy. I will have to agree though that they don't fit quite like they used to. I am still holding out for shorts weather and I have confirmed that they do wear shorts here, but am a bit alarmed to not that their summer fashion sense seems a bit less appealing than their cold weather gear. The most notable issue I have is that a lot of the men wear short shorts. Not a big surprise from a place that sells man panties and man purses, but it is going to make finding a nice long pair of shorts a bit of a challenge. On the other end, they seem to go to the other extreme. Capri pants I believe they are called are quite popular with younger men. So, I guess I may have to ultimately make the choice between looking like a gal in my Capri pants or showing alot of ball cleavage through the bottoms of my short shorts.
That should about do it from Day 46. Take care and see ya soon.
